Discover the curiosities of Aotearoa's native invertebrates.
Unearthed is an interactive book targeted at 18-25 year olds. It fosters a sense of wonder and connection through illustration and interactive sections. Look inside the French folds, lift up the flaps and engage with these curious creatures found here in Aotearoa.
Unearthed features a range of invertebrates from the long-nosed giraffe weevil to the hairy glow-in-the-dark north Auckland worm. The book comes with Invertebrates and the Ecosystem, a fold out brochure that dives deeper into three ecosystem processes briefly touched on in the book.
The interactive sections encourage the reader to discover and reveal the hidden invertebrates, reminiscent of digging around in the garden as a child, lifting up rocks to see what could be found underneath.
Printed on textured paper, this brochure folds in on itself to reflect the intertwined nature of the ecosystem.
The three main processes discussed are decomposition, food web or energy transfer, and pollination. Each has a corresponding pattern shown below.
